    Plaque affixed
    commemorating James Brindley's association with the mill
  • 1968
    Listed as of special historic interest;
    Dr C T G Boucher described the property in his
    biography of James Brindley.
  • 1970
    Brindley Mill Preservation Trust
    registered as a charity.
  • 1972
    Freehold acquired;
    restoration work commenced on waterways and main structure.
  • 1973
    Restoration of machinery undertaken.
  • 1974
    Water abstraction licence obtained;
    Brindley Mill Officially opened to the public on 4th May.
  • 1975
    Regular demonstrations of grinding.
  • 1976
    Weir overhauled.
  • 1977
    Woodworm treated.
  • 1980
    James Brindley Museum created.
  • 1986
    Weir stonework rebedded.
  • 1988
    Major roof repairs.
  • 1989
    Sluice gate replacement.
  • 1991
    Waterwheel strengthened with metal straps.
  • 1993
    New cast iron downspouts and gutters.
  • 1995
    Both sets of stones cleaned out and new wipers fitted;
    New striker plate, new box to one of the chutes.
  • 2000
    Wheel realigned and complete set of new timber wedges fitted;
    No.1 stone lifted off, stones recut and reassembled.
  • 2001
    New windows fitted to the rear elevation of the mill.
